Knitting Frenzy

I hate that it’s been so long since I’ve blogged, and when I do blog, I feel that I don’t have anything substantial to say.

That being said, I’ve been knitting a lot in the last year. Picked up crochet again. And today I googled what looms are all about and I’m curious to try  that out too.

I crocheted a throw recently. I’ll post about it later in more detail.

Work is work. I’m on call all week from tomorrow. Saturday I have vacation, so I’m going home for a little.

That’s all I’ve got for now.

Vacationing Already

It’s completely weird, but I feel like it’s much deserved – I’m on vacation this week.

I’ve only recently started in surgery, and I have to say that it feels good to be able to take a break away from work already. Mind you, my leave was fixed in my schedule and I just didn’t feel the need to change it to another time.

Bearing that in mind, I’ve been off for four days now. I hate to say that I wish I had accomplished more in those four days. So what have I been up to?

I ordered (and received – quite quickly!) a cat scratch post for our newest family member, Londyn. It arrived Monday, so I spent the morning putting that together for her. And she loves it!

fitness first

Vince and I took advantage of a free entry pass and went to the gym. Fitness First. For £40, it would definitely not be worth it. It was a really small gym, and they didn’t have too great a selection of equipment. But it did feel good to run inside again.

Vince and I also started exploring other gyms in the area. He was actually signed up with a really great gym in the city, but that was close to his old work, and it’s inconvenient for us to go there now.

For the rest of the week, I need to find my old supervisor and have a chat with him this week, while I have the free time to do so. It would also be great if I could sit down and work on this new theme I feel I’ve been working on for years. I also need to do some research for a journal club I’m going to be presenting for in a few weeks time.

Swimming with Dolphins

After we got married, my husband and I had a day to clean up, and pack up for our honeymoon. We’ve had a long-time vacation tradition we started in our first year of dating. It involved Cuba. Every year, starting in 2004, we would take a week off from school and our jobs and relax. I can’t say how it compares to Mexico, Dominican, or Jamaica, because I’ve never been, but I love Cuba as a vacation spot. It’s friendly, safe, clean, and fun. And my husband and I have been to resorts all over the country.

This year, we went back to Cayo Santa Maria. We’ve only been once before, when the location was relatively new to receiving tourists and there was only 3 or 4 resorts on the island. But we fell in love with the white sand beach and crystal-clear water. This year, there are several more resorts on the island, and we stayed at one of the newer ones.

I also finally, finally, finally got to swim with dolphins! I’ve been wanting to do this since the first time we went away, and Hubby finally caved in. And all I can say about it was that it was an awesome experience and I would definitely do it again!

I also finally bought an underwater camera. And learned that both myself and the hubby are really bad at taking underwater selfies.

The Rest of the Holiday

So my vacation has come to an end, and because I’m writing this a little later than the actual post date, I’m gonna give a rough summary of the last days of my vacation. Thursday involved the Islands tour, where I visited Lipari and Vulcano Islands. Friday was our last day in the city of Milazzo, and we ended the week with a sweet seafood meal at a local restaurant. Saturday we stayed on “the farm,” but we took a trip out to Tindari for a few hours. And 3am Sunday, I was being driven back to the airport to catch my flight back to med-school-land. The boyfriend and his family stayed for an extra week, so at least I got the added bonus of being able to FaceTime in the same time zone. And with that, here are a few pictures.
